Description
Beautiful original woodblock print of vertical large oban (大判) format, made by the artist Ogata Gekko (尾形月耕), entitled “Distant View of the Fireworks” (遠景の花火) and depicting a bijin (美人) beauty on a veranda over the Sumida River (隅田川).
This work, produced in 1891 by the publisher Sasaki Toyokichi (佐々木豊吉), is taken from the elegant series of prints entitled “Fujin fuzoku zukushi” (婦人風俗尽), that is “An Assortment of Women’s Customs”.
The print on Japanese washi paper (和紙), despite the right signs of aging, is in overall very good condition, thanks also to an effective relining carried out on the back.
