Description

Precious original woodblock print made around 1830 by the famous artist Keisai Eisen (渓斎英泉), entitled “Cherry Blossoms in Full Bloom on the Banks of the Sumida River” (隅田堤桜盛) and depicting a bijin (美人) beauty on a spring day during the hanami (花見).

The print of vertical large oban (大判) format was produced by the publisher Ezakiya Tatsuzo (江崎屋辰蔵), owner of Sengyokudo (専玉堂), and is the right panel of a triptych.

The work shows evident signs of aging and, in particular, numerous wormholes restored with a relining carried out on the back with another sheet of Japanese washi paper (和紙).
