Description

Elegant triptych of large oban (大判) format woodblock prints made in February 1896 by the artist Toyohara Chikanobu (豊原周延) and depicting three beauties observing a boy practicing archery.

The work, produced by the publisher Hasegawa Tsunejiro (長谷川常治郎), is taken from a series in which the famous artist recalls the court life of the Edo period (江戸時代) and which is entitled “Tokugawa jidai kifujin no zu” (徳川時代貴婦人之図), that is “High-ranking Ladies of the Tokugawa Era”.

The prints on Japanese washi paper (和紙), despite the presence of the right signs of aging and slight wrinkles, as well as many tiny holes in the corners of the sheets, are in good general condition.
