Description

Beautiful original woodblock print taken from the “Daily Practise of the Tea Ceremony” (茶の湯日々草), a refined series dedicated by the artist Mizuno Toshikata (水野年方) to one of the best known traditional arts intertwined with Zen (禅) Buddhism, that is the social and spiritual rite also referred to as the “way of tea” (茶道).

The work, produced in April 1896 by the publisher Akiyama Buemon (秋山武右衛門), owner of Kokkeido (滑稽堂), is entitled “Calling for Guests to Come and Sit in the Tea Room” (初座迎ひの図).

The print on Japanese washi paper (和紙), despite the right signs of aging, including some slight stains and tiny holes on the margins, as well as the presence of a central vertical fold, is in overall good condition.
