Description

Precious original woodblock print of large vertical format produced in September 1862 by the publisher Fujiokaya Keijiro (藤岡屋慶次郎), owner of Shorindo (松林堂), and by the carver Katada Chojiro (片田長次郎). The work is taken from the series “Views of Famous Places in Edo” (江戸名勝図会) by the artist Utagawa Hiroshige II (二代目歌川広重) and is dedicated to the Edobashi bridge (江戸橋).

The artist, with a very wise compositional choice, puts at the center of the scene a cherry tree in bloom transported across the famous bridge by two men. In the background of the print, in perspective order, the Nihonbashi Bridge (日本橋), the Edo Castle (江戸城) and Mount Fuji (富士山).

The woodblock print on Japanese washi paper (和紙), despite the right signs of aging, is in good condition.
