Elegant woodblock print of the kuchi-e (口絵) type made in April 1906 by the artist Mishima Shoso (三島蕉窓) as the frontispiece of the novel “A Hot Bath” (湯浴み) and depicting a young woman combing her hair. A large banana tree is on the foreground.
The work is taken from a special issue (増刊), entitled “Stories of Eccentric People of the Meiji Period” (明治畸人伝) vol. 12 n. 6, of the famous literary magazine Bungei Kurabu (文芸倶楽部).
The print on Japanese washi paper (和紙), edited by the Hakubunkan (博文館) publishing house, despite some fold marks, is in good condition.
