Description

Beautiful polychrome woodblock print of vertical large oban (大判) format made by the artist Kasamatsu Shiro (笠松紫浪) and depicting a bamboo grove in a fascinating contrast with the glow of the full moon and the lighted windows of a rural house.

The work, entitled “Bamboo in Early Summer” (初夏の竹) was printed for the first time, by the Unsodo (芸艸堂) publishing house, in 1954 and is presented here in a later edition reprinted from the original woodblocks.

The print on Japanese washi paper (和紙), on the left margin of which we also read the seals of the carver Nagashima Michio (長嶋道男) and the printer Ichimura Mamoru (市村守), is in very good condition.
