Description

Important original woodblock print of horizontal large oban (大判) format, made in a period between 1843 and 1847 by the famous artist Keisai Eisen (渓斎英泉), and depicting a suggestive view of Mount Tsukuba (筑波山) from the ancient Mimeguri Jinja (三囲神社) Shinto shrine, on the banks of the Sumida River (隅田川).

The work, produced by the publisher Yamamotoya Heikichi Eikyudo (山本屋平吉栄久堂), is taken from the series “Eight Views of Edo” (江戸八景) and, due to the flock of wild geese visible on the right, is entitled “Descending Geese on the Sumida River” (隅田川の落雁).

The rare woodcut on Japanese washi paper (和紙), despite the right signs of aging, is in overall good condition.
