Description

Original woodblock print of horizontal chuban (中判) format depicting an evocative view of Mount Hiko (英彦山), in the ancient Buzen Province (豊前国), a place where the famous swordsman Miyamoto Musashi (宮本武蔵) is believed to have trained after the defeat in the Battle of Sekigahara (関ヶ原の戦い).

The work is taken from the series “Elementary Education: Collection of Pictures of Famous Places of Great Japan” (小学教育大日本名所図会) by the artist Utagawa Hiroshige III (三代目歌川広重) and was produced, in September 1891, by the publisher Kodama Matashichi (児玉又七).

The print on Japanese washi paper (和紙), despite the right signs of aging and the presence of binding holes, is in good condition.
