Important original woodblock print of vertical large oban (大判) format, made in the 30s of the XIX century by the artist Keisai Eisen (渓斎英泉) and depicting the courtesan Shiratama (志ら玉) of Tamaya (玉屋) reading a letter.

The work, produced by the publisher Maruya Jinpachi (丸屋甚八), owner of Enjudo (円寿堂), is taken from the series “Matches for the Cherry Blossoms at Famous Places” (見立名所桜尽) and is titled “Blossoms at Asuka Hill” (飛鳥山の花).

The rare print on Japanese washi paper (和紙), despite the obvious signs of aging, including restorations also on wormholes as well as slight wrinkles and fold marks, is in overall fair condition.
